Tiers & Ranking System
Drawing heavy influence from the old European fencing guild traditions of Germany, Britain, France, Belgium, Italy, etc., our ranking system seeks to honor the past and revive the traditions of the martial arts we train.
Our ranks reflect a number of factors - Time spent training, skill, proficiency with multiple weapons, knowledge, Fighting abilities and character. Each rank has a minimum time requirement, but can often require more time. Our ranks are not designed to be a focal point of a student’s training, but instead an underlying foundation to give students structure for their training and goals for their progression and achievement. It is also structured to incorporate students of all commitment levels - from casual members to diehard hemaists. based on the “guild’ system, a defining feature is the amount of time a student has spent developing their craft, acquiring a variety of skills and knowledge along the way. At various ranks, students may be tested or have prize fights to advance.
Students will be awarded patches to go on their uniform/jacket to signify rank as well as accomplishments.
Additionally, for our regular class training for (intermediate and advanced level students), we use a tier system - Tier 1 (Advanced) Tier 2 (Intermediate) Tier 3 (Novice) to place students in training focus groups periodically. Tier placement is not directly correlated with rank but more so directly relates to skill, knowledge and fitness level in addition to commitment/attendance. Once a student completes our beginner’s courses they will move into Tier 3 and will advance upwards when notified by instructors.
